An abundance Canada is increasingly investing in. In the fall of 2017, the Government of Canada announced additional funding, of $21.9 billion over 11 years, to support green infrastructure. This will include targeted investments to support greenhouse gas reductions and increased climate change adaptation and resilience. This will also increase the proportion of Canada’s electricity which is generated from low-emitting sources. The current rates are already quite impressive, with 65% of Canada’s electricity coming from renewable sources such as freshwater from glaciers, lakes and rivers, and 80% coming from non-GHG emitting sources, including nuclear power.
It’s no surprise that in 2017 Canada was ranked top innovator among G20 countries by the Global Cleantech Innovation Index.
